Just Wondering

Just wondering if its wrong for me to really desire to see a miracle or any supernatural move of God?

I really want to see someone healed and get up out of their wheelchairl.

I really want to see someone delivered from demons.

I really want to see something miraculous.

The Wickedness Of This World

Just open your eyes and look around and you will see the corrupt nature of mankind and his sinful, self centered nature.

The evangelical Lutherans voted to allow openly gay people to serve as pastors.

There are a lot of Catholics out there who openly defy the church's teachings on birth control and abortion.

The above two examples beautifully point out the selfish desires of people who don't want to live by the standards of Christianity, but want to pull Christianity down into the gutter with them.

Hebrews 13:8....."Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever."

God is unchanging and unmovable.

Churches must stand like a rock on Biblical teaching and people need to realize that God and his values are bigger then they could ever hope to be.

It is the height of arrogance and it is a foolish folly to even think to make the church conform to the standards of this corrupt and fallen world.

When churches of any denomination cater to the whims and lusts of sinful human nature, they are committing de facto Satan worship.

The bible clearly says that Satan is the prince of this world.

The Pastor's Cat

This is a supposedly true story.

A pastor had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc.

The kitty would not come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and drove away so that the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten.

That's what he did, all the while checking his progress in the car. He then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved the car a little further forward, the rope broke.

The tree went "bong!" and the kitten instantly sailed through the air-out of sight.

The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen a little kitten. No. Nobody had seen a stray kitten. So he prayed, "Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping," and went on about his business.

A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food. This woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, "Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?"

She replied, "You won't believe this," and then told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl, "Well, if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it."

She told the pastor, "I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right in front of her."

Never underestimate the Power of God and His unique sense of humor.

Besetting Sins

1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, (Hebrews 12:1, King James Version)

Why do some sins dog us so persistently?

Why do they cling to us with such a fierce tenacity?

Perhaps its because that is where we are the weakest and that is where Satan will come at us.

I know that since I came back to God, some sin habits went away, but others remain.

It really is disheartening at times.

Salvation Is Eternal

14I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. (Ecclesiastes 3:14, King James Version)

28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (John 10:28, King James Version)

We are saved by the grace and mercy of a loving God.

A God who sent his only son to die a horrible death as a sacrifice for our sins.

A God who loves filthy sinners like us enough to offer up his holy and righteous son whom he loves is not going to play some kind of shell game with our souls.

Those who think that salvation can be lost are entrapped in the saved by works mentality.

Yes, it is possible to drift away from God.

I did it for many years.

But God's love, grace, and mercy are unchangeable and unmoving.

God's Healing

When one thinks of God healing people of disease, its easy to think of all the people who die of cancer, heart disease, and the other big maladies, then wonder where was God then?

God can and certainly does heal people of the big ones, but to fully appreciate God's healing touch, just think of all the times you've succumbed to the flu, or food poisoning, or the common cold. Perhaps it was a tooth abscess, a sprained ankle, or a broken limb.

God has healed you numerous times. Just take a moment and think about it.

Why do some people not get healed and eventually die? I wouldn't even begin to try and guess God's will in that regard.

But all I know is what the Bible says...........all things work together for good for those who love God.

Sunday Paintball

Some adults, our youth, and I went to the local Baptist camp yesterday for our Awana kickoff.

All together there were probably fifty of us there. Not too bad, considering in was sort of a spur of the moment deal.

We grilled out, played softball, and then out came the paintball guns.

I'm new to the sport but I like it.

Running around in the woods, dodging from tree to tree, adrenaline pumping, knowing that any second you could feel the smack and sting of a paintball that found its mark.

What God Offers

 2And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;

3Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.

4And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

5And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.

6Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

7And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. (Acts 3:2-7, King James Version)

The lame beggar was thinking in worldly terms when he asked of money from Peter and John.

But Peter and John were filled with the holy spirit and thought in spiritual terms.

If he had received the world's offerings he would have been empty again.

But, upon receiving what God offers he was made whole.

God wants to heal us. Whether it be physically or spiritually.

Take No Thought

25Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

27Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

28And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

29And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? (Matthew 6:25-30, King James Version)

I believe that this is the lesson the Lord tried to instill in me during my ten months of unemployment.

During that time, there was always a roof over my head, food to eat, clothes to wear, and a car to drive.

Trust in God and he will never fail you.

Temptation

41Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. (Matthew 26:41, King James Version)

When the Lord speaks of the flesh being weak, it may mean that inside, in our renewed hearts and spirit, we want to live a righteous life.

But we are trapped in a prison of flesh that is driven by our lusts and our selfish desires.

The apostle Paul expands on this thought in the following passage:

17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. (Galatians 5:17, King James Version)

Modern Idolatry

The Old Testament is full of accounts of how ancient Israel succumbed to the lure of idolatry.

People of today are no different.

Today's idols are not made of stone and wood, but are money, sex, drugs, fame and other things.

I'm mentioning this because I gave in to the lure of idolatry for a bit on this blog.

I signed up with Google ad sense and it put an advertisement for the cult of Scientology on the page.

Well, I let if go for a while and was convicted by the spirit so hard that I had to take it down. The thought of having anything to do with leading people to that false prophet L. Ron Hubbard really condemned me.

When the holy spirit convicts you, there is not getting away from it.

Girls Who Cut Themselves

We were talking in Sunday School yesterday morning, and the subject of girls who cut themselves came up in our discussion of the works of the devil.

Suddenly, a couple of passages of scripture came into my mind.

27And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.

28And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.

29And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

30And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down.

31And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:

32And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.

33And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood. (1 Kings 18:27-33, King James Version)

The above passage describes Elijah's showdown with the prophets of Baal that the Israelites had a nasty habit of worshiping.

Baal and the other false gods worshiped throughout the Bible were nothing more than demons who set themselves up to be worshiped in order to lead people away from the one true God.

5And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. (Mark 5:5, King James Version)

This passage tells of the self abuse committed by the demoniac that Jesus encountered.

See anything similar to what some of these troubled girls do to themselves today?

Like it says in scripture.........there is nothing new under the sun.

Spurgeon on Apostasy

"In looking carefully over the history of the times, and the movement of the times,
of which we have written briefly, this fact is apparent: that where ministers and
Christian churches have held fast to the truth that the Holy Scriptures have been
given by God as an authoritative and infallible rule of faith and practice, they have
never wandered very seriously out of the right way. But when, on the other hand,
reason has been exalted above revelation, and made the exponent of revelation, all
kinds of errors and mischiefs have been the result."

Now That's Faith

Two nuns were driving down a country road when they ran out of gas. They walked to a farmhouse and a farmer gave them some gasoline; but the only container he had was an old bedpan.

The nuns were happy to take whatever they were offered and returned to their car. As they were pouring the gasoline from the bedpan into the tank of their car, a rabbi drove by.

He stopped, rolled down his window and said, "Excuse me, sisters. I'm not of your religion, but I couldn't help admiring your faith....!"

The Plan Of Salvation In One Verse

Acts 16:29-31 (King James Version)

29Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

30And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Spurgeon On Gambling

"I can never look upon dice except with abhorrence. If you ask me why; I reply,—
Because the soldiers at the foot of the cross threw dice for my Saviour’s garments,
and I have never heard the rattling of dice but I have conjured up the dreadful scene
of Christ upon his cross, and gamblers at the foot of it, with their dice bespattered

damns men, and, worse than that, makes them the devil’s help to damn others, than
gambling."

Homeschooled Girl Ordered to Attend Public School Over Her 'Rigid' Faith

Amanda Kurowski is a 10-year-old homeschooled girl who performs well academically and is socially well-adjusted. But her strong Christian beliefs were reason enough for a New Hampshire court to order her out of homeschooling and into a public school.

A judge in black robes orders that a child be turned over to the state, how frightening is that?

This could also be a continuance of the issues that led to the divorce of the mother and father. Notice how the mother is for home schooling and the dad is the one who helped to bring all this about.

It wouldn't be the first time an innocent child was used as a weapon between a divorced couple.

This little girl needs a lot of prayer.

Spurgeon On Backsliding

The Christian life is very much like climbing a hill of ice. You cannot slide up, nay,
you have to cut every step with an ice axe; only with incessant labour in cutting and
chipping can you make any progress; you need a guide to help you, and you are not
safe unless you are fastened to the guide, for you may slip into a crevasse. Nobody
ever slides up, but if great care be not taken they will slide down, slide back, or in
other words backslide. This is very easily done. If you want to know how to backslide,
the answer is leave off going forward and you will slide backward, cease going
upward and you will go downward of necessity, for stand still you never can.

The Little Miracles

My guess is that when people think of miracles, the thoughts of the Red Sea being parted and water turning to wine are the first things to spring to mind.

But I'm learning that in my life God works miracles on a smaller scale every day.

Today I badly needed a certain file at work and looked at the overstuffed box of files it was in figuring it would be a might task. So I look into the box to begin my mighty task, and lo and behold there was my file sticking out like a sore thumb.

The other day my keys ended up being locked inside my car. I didn't have a clue what to do. I ask around for ideas and my team leader tells me his dad has a slim jim tool for getting into cars, and he's on his way over anyway for something completely different.

I was out of work for quite a while, and just when the bills really starting closing in on me, a job appears out of the blue.

Now, I should mention that I prayed for all the above mentioned things, and God came through, just like he always does.

Don't be afraid to ask God anything. If it fits with his will then it will be done.

Sunday Bible Lesson

The Nature Of Christ

As Christians we should all strive to emulate the saviour. If fact the word Christian means Christlike.

To that end, it would be useful to study some of the traits demonstrated by Jesus in the scriptures.

Jesus Was Holy

Jesus was born without a sin nature and was the only person to ever live who committed no sin.

He loved righteousness and hated iniquity.

His love of righteousness can be seen in the way he marvelled at the faith of the centurion.

Matthew 8:5-13 (King James Version)

5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,

6And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.

7And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

8The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

9For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

10When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

11And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

12But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

13And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

The bible teaches us that our faith is credited towards us as righteousness.

His hatred of sin can be seen in his cleansing of the temple of the money changers who were exploited those who came to sacrifice and worship:

Mark 11:15-17 (King James Version)

15And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;

16And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.

17And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

Jesus Was Compassionate

John 11:35 (King James Version)

35Jesus wept.

Mark 6:34 (King James Version)

34And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

Matthew 20:34 (King James Version)

34So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

Jesus Was Prayerful

Hebrews 5:7 (King James Version)

7Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

Luke 3:21 (King James Version)

21Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,

This is just a very brief touching on of the many wonderful traits of the saviour.

I hope you get a blessing from it.

The Old Lady And The Atheist

There was this very righteous old lady who lived next door to an atheist.

Every morning she would come out on her front porch and sing and praise God.

As you can imagine, this did not sit very well with the atheist, who was always thinking of things to prove the foolishness of her belief in God. Each morning he would yell across the fence for her to stop her nonsense and to tell her there is no God.

Then one day the old lady fell on some hard times and it didn't look like she would have any money for groceries. That morning when she was on her front porch she cried out to the Lord to deliver her and provide some relief.

The atheist neighbor heard it and thought his opportunity to prove to her that there is no God had finally arrived.

He went to the store and the next morning there were bags and bags of groceries on her porch.

The old lady came out, saw the groceries, and proceeded to jump up and down praising God.

At that moment, the atheist jumped out from around the corner of the house and said, "See, I told you there was no God. It was I who bought those groceries."

When the old lady heard that she commenced to jump up and down again, sing praises to God, and worshipped the Lord like never before, leaving the atheist dumbfounded.

Finally the old lady says........."God is great and he has supplied all my needs....and he even made the devil pay for it."

Spiritual Attack

I think I am in the midst of a spiritual attack.

The enemy is coming after me since I made the commitment to teach Sunday school.

Right off the bat, the first day I taught, there was an incident with another member of the church that wasn't pleasant, but we talked about it and everything is all right now.

The future of my new job that I need so badly, that started out so well, is now on some shaky ground.

And today, well today was just awful.

Woke up in a very foul mood, my car wouldn't start, the washing machine broke down, and my loved ones are having some problems as well.

But God is great, and the devil is all ready defeated.

Whatever Satan brings, the Lord will be my defender.

If any of my brothers and sisters out there get a chance to read this, all prayers will be greatly appreciate.

Now I See

John 9:25 (King James Version)

"He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see."

The question is posed.......how do you know you are saved or how do you know you're a backslider no more?

Some times its hard to find the words to explain what is going on on the inside. This verse captures the essence of what it means to be in Christ very well.

You just know something is different.

God Really Does Direct Our Paths

I didn't used to believe so, but the older I get the more I find myself looking back at all the times that God has intervened and directed the course of my life.

When I was six, my mom, my dad, and I lived in a trailer that destroyed the trailer in which we lived. Dad was thrown across the street and landed on his feet. Mom and I were thrown out in the backyard and a piece of tin landed on us, forming a barrier against all the debris flying around. The only injuries we had were a cut on my knee and a cut on mom's forehead.

Then there was the time I was sitting in front of a window with a thunder storm coming up. I got up for some reason or other and just a few seconds later a lightning bolt came through the window, right where I was sitting, and struck the TV.

The point is that God is in control and everything and works all things to his purpose.

If he hadn't protected me then, I wouldn't be here now writing this to praise and glorify him. And I certainly wouldn't be here come Sunday morning to teach Sunday School.

Just as God directed Jonah to Nineveh, he also directs the course of our lives.
