The Nature Of Christ
As Christians we should all strive to emulate the saviour. If fact the word Christian means Christlike.
To that end, it would be useful to study some of the traits demonstrated by Jesus in the scriptures.
Jesus Was HolyJesus was born without a sin nature and was the only person to ever live who committed no sin.
He loved righteousness and hated iniquity.
His love of righteousness can be seen in the way he marvelled at the faith of the centurion.
Matthew 8:5-13 (King James Version)5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
9For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
11And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
The bible teaches us that our faith is credited towards us as righteousness.
His hatred of sin can be seen in his cleansing of the temple of the money changers who were exploited those who came to sacrifice and worship:
Mark 11:15-17 (King James Version) 15And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
16And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.
17And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Jesus Was CompassionateJohn 11:35 (King James Version) 35Jesus wept.
Mark 6:34 (King James Version) 34And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
Matthew 20:34 (King James Version) 34So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.
Jesus Was PrayerfulHebrews 5:7 (King James Version) 7Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
Luke 3:21 (King James Version) 21Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
This is just a very brief touching on of the many wonderful traits of the saviour.
I hope you get a blessing from it.
